EDEX Mid-Year Expo to kick off next month amidst ongoing GCE AL exams
EDEX Mid-Year Expo, one of Sri Lanka’s most sought after education placement exhibitions, will kick off next month – this time while the GCE Advanced Level exams are underway. Unlike the AL exam schedule which was postponed in-between exams to accommodate the General Elections that took place on July 17, the EDEX event couldn’t be postponed, according to some organisers of the exhibition.
The 2-day exhibition will be held on September 5-6 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre in Colombo. The AL exams earlier scheduled to end on August 28, will now end on Tuesday, September 8. Speaking to the Business Times on the sidelines of the media briefing on Tuesday in Colombo, EDEX Chairman Kamal Abeysinghe said, “We are confident that a satisfactory number of students would turn up for the exhibition in September amidst the AL exams”.
A lot of promotion has been done by sending brochures to schools and university students about the exhibition, he added. It was also mentioned at the briefing that with participant and visitor numbers growing year on year, this year’s education platform will feature close to 200 stalls occupied by over 100 local and foreign universities and institutions from over 12 countries, represented directly or through their agents in Sri Lanka offering placements and spot admissions in diverse disciplines. Visitors can benefit from the scholarship offers, discounted course fees and many other special benefits offered by some exhibitors.
The Job Fair at the exhibition will feature 40 stalls with many leading and most-sought-after employer organisations showcasing their available job opportunities with a view to recruiting suitably qualified youth with desirable personal traits and skills. The Job Fair addresses the issues of unemployment and underemployment by creating a conducive environment where youth with potential and right talents can directly meet employers whilst assisting corporates to make use of the vast pool of talent freely accessible to fill in their vacancies.
The EDEX Careers Pavilion will continue to provide free psychometric testing while seminars will also be conducted on both days free of charge. These seminars will be interactive and feature industry professionals who will share expertise on themes of contemporary importance.
