Two motor cyclists die of head injuries

A motor-cyclist was killed when he collided with a container vehicle on Wednesday, a coroner’s court heard this week.
The victim, Lalith Ratnayake, 34, a father of two from Hettipola was first rushed to the Hettipola General Hospital and later transferred to the National Hospital, in Colombo where he succumbed to his injuries.

Giving evidence in the Coroner’s Court the container driver said he was transporting coir to Colombo when a speeding motor-cycle hit the vehicle from behind. He said that the rider was thrown a few yards due to the crash.J.M.O, D. I. L. Ratnayake who conducted the post mortem examination said the victim died of head injuries. Colombo’s Inquirer into Sudden Deaths M. Ashroff Rumi too confirmed that the victim sustained fatal injuries to his spine and head when he hit the container vehicle.

In another incident a motor cyclist was killed when he crashed into a bridge at Anguruwathota on Monday. The motorist, 41-year-old Talagalage Nalin, an employee at a foreign job agency, was taken to the Horana National Hospital and later transferred to the ICU of the National Hospital, Colombo where he died.

The post mortem was conducted by Dr. Mrs. Joozari who confirmed that death was due to serious head injuries and profuse bleeding.  -C.S.
