‘Dhuwili Mal’ A glimpse on shanty lives

‘Dhuwili Mal’, a teledrama depicting the lives of shanty dwellers and their struggle for survival is the latest teledrama that joined the Rupavahini teledrama belt. It will be telecast every weekday at 8.30 pm on the Rupavahini channel.

Scripted and directed by R. K. Aluthveediyage, the teledrama is produced by Lalith Swarnanayake. Behind the screen camera direction is by Thusitha Anuradha and the musical score is written by Navaratne Gamage. ‘Dhuwili Mal’ stars Cyrlic Wickremage, Wimal Kumara de Costa, Nadeeka Gunasekara, Vishaka Siriwardena, Ranil Kulasinghe, Niroshan Wijesinghe, Sarath Kotalawela, Shalini Tharaka, Thisuru Yuwanika and Shalika Edirisinghe.

With a theme line ‘The heartbeat of princes who had not heard the lullabies in soft cradles’ , ‘Dhuwili Mal’ revolves around a group of characters that we come across in two shanty lines namely Paris Watta and Pangiri Watta.

The play shows the social realities in these unfortunate surroundings and tries to gives a real picture about them. It shows the struggle they face to meet the day-to-day living and evils like the underworld, pick pocketing, drug smuggling and addiction that are connected to this back ground.

It also exposes the lives of beggars and their living standards. ‘Dhuwili Mal’ shows the good side of the characters in these societies and the inherent inhuman qualities of the rich.
