Megapolis Authority to be set up
View(s):A Megapolis Authority is to be set up under the purview of the newly established Ministry of Megapolis and Western Province Development.
Megapolis and Western Province Development Minister Champika Ranawaka told the Sunday Times that the draft to setup the Authority was being prepared and would be submitted to Parliament soon.
In the Western Province the Authority would be responsible for finding solutions to the garbage issue, resolving the housing issue of shanty dwellers and drawing traffic plans to avoid congestion in busy towns. New cities would be developed in the Bandaragama, Kadawatha, Kottawa and Kerawalapitiya surrounding the outer circular road now under construction.
The Minister said the Megapolis Authority would prepare plans for the development of the Western Province and implement them through the provincial council, local councils and the UDA.
The Authority would identify low line and environmental sensitive areas and areas for water retention, forest conservations, paddy fields, agriculture, industries, Commercial activities, residences, tourism and fisheries.
