With the slashing of fuel prices in January, vehicle imports having doubled during the past seven months and more fatal accidents almost every day, Colombo and its suburbs are seeing some of the worst traffic congestions. Friday’s picture of the jam at the Rajagiriya junction is just one of a host of such traffic snarls which lead to more air pollution, waste of fuel, precious time and accidents. Some motorists complain that a one kilometre journey in this area took a painful hour and with heavy rains this week, the crisis has worsened. Pic by Indika Handuwala.
