Top Sri Lankan bankers visit Dubai, Abu Dhabi
View(s):A high level delegation of Sri Lankan bankers led by Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran visited Dubai and Abu Dhabi this week for a series of meetings with banks to explore options for credit lines and technical cooperation pacts, official sources said.
There was no official statement on the September 16-18 visit by a team that included Central Bank Deputy Governors P.N. Weerasinghe and Ananda Silva; Bank of Ceylon Chairman, Commercial Bank Managing Director, NDB Managing Director, Sampath Bank Managing Director, Seylan Bank GM/CEO and the People’s Bank Head of Treasury.
The Business Times learns that bilateral discussions were held with the respective Central Banks of the two countries. Meetings were held with the Governor and Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of the UAE and officials of large private banks – Emirates NBD Bank, Noor Bank, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, First Gulf Bank and Mashreq Bank. “There were talks on how best to carry out technical cooperation’s,” one delegation official said, adding that similar delegations from these countries are to visit Sri Lanka soon.
He said that the CEOs of local commercial banks who participated had discussions with their counterparts on extending credit lines that they already have and to obtain some fresh ones. The delegation returned to Sri Lanka on Friday morning.
