Jeep Wrangler Southern Night Rally to cover 455kms
The 17th Southern Night Rally known as the Journey through the wilderness of the South organised by the Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC) will rev off from opposite the entrance to the historic Matara Fort at 7 pm on the 25th of September.
‘Jeep Wrangler’ represented by DIMO have graciously consented to sponsor the grueling TSD type rally for the second consecutive year.
The 455 kilometre course plotted by Sri Lanka’s Rally Guru Andrew Silva will pass through the districts of Matara and Galle and will be held in two stages.
The 200 km first stage comprising of 77% tar and 30% gravel course will start at Matara and pass through Thihagoda, Yatiyana, Kadduwa, Weligama, Kokmaduwa, Yakkakamulla, Udugama, Mapalagama, Nagoda and end at Galle at midnight.
The 235 km second stage comprising of a 65% Tar and Concrete and 30% gravel course will start at Galle at 2.00 AM and pass through Kananke, Makumbura, Udugama, Maplagama, Thawalama, Neluwa, Morawaka, Darangala, Kamburupitiya, Akuressa, Malimboda and Matara.
The first vehicle is scheduled to cross the finish line opposite the Beach Park in Matara at 6.30 AM on the 26th will be followed by the awards ceremony will be at 10AM.
CEO of DIMO Gahanath Pandithage, Patron of Southern Motor Sports Club Prof Oscar Amarasinghe, Founder President Suranjith Premadasa, SMSC Prasanna Wijewickrema, Vice President SMSC Ashshar Hamim and Secretary SMSC Andrew Silva were present at the media briefing held at Olympic House Colombo on Wednesday.
