Young Kushan steals the limelight at Uda Walawa Supercross
View(s):The 5th Uda Walawa Supercross organised by the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) in collaboration with Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC) which concluded at the Craftsman Autodrome Sevanagala saw Kushan Peiris steal the limelight by recording two wins.
Eighteen year old Kushan continued his winning spree having had success in the previous major racing meets and in fact he was the only driver to record two wins.
Kushan missed out on a triple when he was pushed to the second spot in his first event in a thrilling contest which Upulwan Serasinghe prevailed. But he came back to win his next two events when he turned tables against Upulwan.
In his third event Kushan had his own way as he had some experience drivers in the likes of Zaakir Wahab and Sajaad Zuhar trailing way behind, but a mishap midway of the event forced the organisers to call off the race, even then the win was awarded to Kushan who was not affected.
Meanwhile in the motorcycle events Ishan Dassanayake, Kasun de Silva and Evon Gurusinghe too secured two wins each.
Ishan’s two wins were in the Racing upto 125cc and Open 2T&4T (Special Club Event) while Evon came out on top in the Standard/Modified upto 250cc and Standard/Modified (Open 4T) (Special Club Event).
Kasun started off with a win in the Standard/Modified upto 125 event and later came out on top in the Racing 100cc upto 125cc Forces Event.
The much looked forward to Group SL-GT upto 3500cc event unfortunately turned out to be a depleted event as most of the top drivers were not in the fray.
But even then the spectators were given their money’s worth in an event which included the ace driver Ashan Silva who in fact dominated the event once the race got going.
Ashan’s speed was too much for the others as it turned out to be a one horse race that ended in him coasting away to a convincing win. Missing in action was two top riders Shuehan Adikari and Gayan Sandaruwan and Pasindu Peiris and Aravinda Premadasa in the motor events. – MSA
