Revving two strokes for a worthy cause
View(s):The grand Sri Lankan voyage for 40 tuk-tuk novices begins this weekend. Pimp My Tuk-Tuk (PMTT,) will make an adventurous week-long journey through the island, driving Sri Lanka’s favourite three-wheeler from Jaffna to Matara. Revving their two strokes for worthy causes along the way this team consisting of expats who currently call Singapore home, along with their 20 Tuk-Tuks are expected to make some meaningful visits during their stay here.
One of the most significant projects, according to Kushil Gunasekera of the Foundation of Goodness is a water purification project. The Foundation of Goodness is the beneficiary of all funds generated by PMTT, and this project involves the setting-up of a reverse osmosis plant which will provide clean water to those at risk of developing kidney related diseases, he said.
Seeing the team-off to Jaffna where their journey begins, Rohantha Athukorala, head of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau said he hoped they would return with “43 interesting stories” through photographs of their adventure. They were also subject to a brief lesson on how to drive their mode of transport upon their arrival in Jaffna.
“We represent all walks of life,” said Alex Longman of PMTT of the 40 brave men who will take on Sri Lankan roads. Hoping the 1200 km that stretch-out before them will bring adventurous memories he said the funds their efforts have generated so far have been encouraging.
