Thanks to civic conscious people the signal light system is now working

People living in the vicnity of the level crossing pooled their resources to meet costs of an unpaid electricity bill

This was after the electricity supply to these signal lights and bells were discontinued by the Lanka Electricity Company Limited (LECO) over an unpaid bill.

Despite a string of incidents where passes-by and three-wheelers narrowly escaped being hit by trains due to the non-functioning lights and signals, the villagers moved into action. They collected Rs 5,640 to pay the bill.

Last week the Sunday Times focused on this issue on this page.
