Building up their school
Chundikuli Girls’ College, Jaffna, invites all old girls and friends of the school to support their fundraiser, ‘Samarpana’ – a Bharatha Natyam recital to be held on Saturday, October 3 at the Ramakrishna Mission Hall at 6 p.m. The concert is being held to raise funds for the construction of classrooms for the Primary School.
The programme is presented by students of Chundikuli Girls’ College, who are National award winners in Bharatha Natyam, Ms. Subashini Pathmanathan, a renowned dancer and old girl, and other past pupils of the school.
Chundikuli Girls’ College is a leading educational institution in the North which has provided excellent service to students for the past 120 years. Many who walked through the portals of this school are serving the nation and around the world in various capacities. The school is one of five schools managed by the Governing Body for the educational institutions founded by the C.M. S. in Ceylon.
Currently, the school has about 1,620 students. Following the end of the war, 172 students from families displaced from Vanni were admitted to the school in 2009 and are provided with full bursaries with the help of old girls.Further many more families have returned to the North and there is a growing demand for admission.
Thus a great need for more classrooms has arisen. The desire of Jaffna parents for their children too to receive a holistic education and the high standard of English has drawn many to seek admission to Chundikuli.
This has necessitated the need for an additional set of classrooms for the Primary School. This project seeks to house the Primary School children in one well-equipped separate building, with a safe environment.
Tickets for ‘Samarpana’ are priced at Rs. 5,000, Rs.2,000, Rs.1,000 and Rs. 500 and can be obtained from Rio Ice Cream Parlour on Marine Drive at Wellawatte ( near Wellawatte Station) . Tickets will be sold at the gate as well.
