Embassy of Vietnam to hold charity concert
View(s):The Embassy of Vietnam in Sri Lanka will play host to a concert in the name of charity on Monday, October 5 at the Bishops College Auditorium (7 p.m. onwards).The event, titled ‘Charming Vietnam’, is a celebration to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
Speaking to the Sunday Times, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Phan Kieu Thu noted that this was the first time the embassy was producing such a show.
Breaking from standard diplomatic norm, Ambassador Phan will also perform a few items on the show-one a Vietnamese song and another song in Sinhala.As the youngest ambassador to be appointed from her country Ambassador Phan lives up to a long tradition of civil service in her family.
The diplomat can reportedly sing in nine languages, making her a popular figure in the local arts scene. Ambassador Phan will also perform with several visiting musicians from Vietnam; “these artists are popular in Vietnam,” she says.
The proceeds from the event will be donated to a housing project for people in need under the patronage of the Bishop of Chilaw. The ambassador will also host a reception in honour of invitees in the audience following the event.
