The doors of Sri Lanka’s embassy in the Qatari capital Doha are to be kept open 24 hours for runaway Sri Lankan housemaids to seek shelter and refuge, ambassador W.M. Karunadasa said.

Any expatriate housemaid who seeks the shelter in the embassy would be welcomed at any time of the day, he said in a statement.
The ambassador also said that following discussions with Foreign Employment Minister Talatha Athukorale during her recent visit to Qatar, a decision was taken to improve the hospitality extended to Sri Lankan workers. Sri Lankans visiting the embassy are now offered coffee and tea.

The embassy has also organised a workshop on the theme “We Sri Lankans in Qatar and our role for the motherland”. This will be held on October 3 at the embassy premises.
