Debarawewa NS open season with a first innings win
Helped by a 114 run third wicket stand by Ishara Chathuranga and Sachithra Hemanayake Debarawewa National School opened their under 19 season with a first innings win over Vidyartha College Kandy played at Debarawewa.
Vidyartha College were invited to bat first and went on to post 230 all out before tea. Sahan Danawatta scored 41 runs while Bimsara Samaratunga, Dushan Jayathilake, Pulina Gunathilake, Tharindu Dissanayaike, Namal Perera and Lakshan Upananda made useful contributions. Sri Lanka under 19 hopeful Udith Madushan captured four wickets while Sachithra Hemanayake and Prasad Kavinda captured two wickets each.
Continuing from their overnight score of 95/2 Debarawewa NS were able to declare their first innings at 318/8 declared. Ishara Chathuranga scored 88 off 158 balls with nine boundaries and a six while Sachithra Hemanayake scored 47 off 87 balls with four boundaries. Opener Ishan Indunil scored 47 off 52 balls (8 boundaries) and together with Ishara put on 63 runs for the second wicket. Batting at number five skipper Sasindu Priyashan scored 67 runs and together with wicket keeper Shehan Malinda put on 94 runs for the sixth wicket. Vidyartha skipper Namal Perera captured three wickets.
Vidyartha were 77/2 when play was called off due to bad light by umpires A M Priyantha and Deepal Surasinghe at 4.20 pm. Dushan Jayathilake scored 31 while Prasad Kavinda was rewarded with the two wickets to fall.
