St. Bridget’s Convent presents “Spark”
The St. Bridget’s Convent Auditorium will come alive to the tunes and theatrics of “Spark,” the annual production by the school’s drama circle. Over 80 young performers will take the stage for this celebration of music, dance and theatre on October 18 and 19.
“Every year we stage this production to bring together everyone from the drama society,” explained Tahiri Perera. “They’re very committed and for us that’s the most important thing.”
Tahiri, alongside fellow seniors Natalie Ranasinghe, Waahida Mohamed and Saalihah Mohideen are part of a team responsible for the production’s content, alongside teacher in charge, Malinthi Perera.
The latter’s support (alongside the school’s) has been crucial in ensuring a successful production, say the girls.
These regular school productions have instilled a definite sense of confidence in them, say the team, thanking the school for its efforts to inculcate a more rounded sense of self in their academic careers.
‘Spark’ will present two short theatrical adaptations of “Robin Hood” and “Nobody to Murder”; the first is a familiar tale with a contemporary twist while the second is a darker comedy about an attempted murder. A group of past pupils will also perform selected monologues.
The lower grades will take on a couple of beloved Disney numbers including “Colours of the Wind” from Pocahontas and “Impossible” from Cinderella.
The seniors have also choreographed several dances, including a TV mash-up to the opening credits of several shows on television right now.
Catch ‘Spark’ on October 18 and 19 from 6.30 pm at the St. Bridget’s Convent Auditorium. Tickets priced at Rs. 600, 800, 1,000 and 1,500 are available at the school’s office.
