Blows were exchanged and police intervened at a Paris meeting of Tamil politicians, including two sitting TNA parliamentarians, to discuss the implications of the Geneva resolution, party sources said. The meeting at a restaurant was attended by TNA MPs Selvam Adaikalanathan (Vanni district) and G. Kavindran (Digamadulla district) and provincial council members N.K. Sivajilingam and Govindan Karunakaran.

The meeting was stormed by some 50 youths who demanded an explanation as to why the politicians had changed their position to support the proposed local mechanism to probe alleged war crimes. The four members had earlier taken the position in Colombo that they were opposed to a local mechanism and wanted an international investigation to probe the alleged war crimes.

They had pointed out that it was the Tamil diaspora that was funding their foreign trips and they had worked against the interests of the Tamil community. The meeting was interrupted and the police were called in to resolve the dispute.
