Dharmapala takes first inning lead
Dharmapala College Pannipitiya have already taken a first inning lead over St Peter’s in the Under-19 Inter-School cricket encounter played at Bambalapitiya. The opening days play saw Dharmapala making a modest score of 230 with Himasha Liyanage making a swashbuckling knock of 169 and St. Peter’s in their turn facing four overs ending the day on seven for no loss.
St. Peter’s continuing from their overnight score despite a knock of 79 coming from Manelka de Silva was able to muster a score of only 175. Dharmapala batting the second time went into the tea break on one for one from three overs.
St. Servatius Matara was sitting pretty against Maris Stella in the match played at Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara. St. Servatius taking first lease of the wicket spearheaded by a knock of 137 by Ramesh Nimantha and half ton by Ashen Dimantha made a formidable score of 284. Maris Stella in reply was restricted to a score of 175 and made to follow on with a deficit of 109 runs were 72 for 3 at the tea break.
In the match between Thurstan and St Benedict’s which began at Kotahena saw Thurstan taking a close first inning lead. Thurstan after being bowled out for 101 struck back to bundle out the Benedictines for a score of 85.
Nalanda was in a strong position against De Mazenod when play stopped for the tea break on day one in the match played at Kandana. Nalanda after bowling out the Mazenodians for a score of 157 went into the tea break on 71 for no loss.
