KDU intake XI commemorates its fallen heroes

The officers of Kotelawala Defence University Intake XI commemorate their fallen heroes on the occasion of their 22nd anniversary of enlistment. On October 17, 1993, at the peak of hostilities, eighty five young men got enlisted to the Intake XI of then Kotelawala Defence Academy to serve the Motherland. On successful completion of academic studies and military training, they were commissioned in the three armed services and went on to serve in the treacherous and hostile battle fields, seas and airspace of North and East in Sri Lanka. They fought bravely in the face of a ruthless enemy, some were decorated for gallantry, some were wounded seriously and some didn’t come back. This tribute is for those who paid the supreme sacrifice.
Lt KRG Gunasena GW
Lt Amal Witharana was born in Maharagama, Colombo and was educated at President’s College, Maharagama. He was a keen sportsman who excelled in soccer, hockey and badminton. He was killed in action due to an enemy attack on Naval Fast Attack Craft P452 off seas of Pulmudai on October 19, 1997.
Lt Cdr WRWMHSB Wickremasinghe SLN
Lt Gopura Gunasena hailed from Meerigama, Gampaha. He is a past student of Galahitiyawa MMV who excelled in studies and sports both. He was killed in action due to an enemy attack whilst serving with the 7th Battalion of Gemunu Watch at Paranthan on February 11, 1998.
Lt Cdr Sanjaya Wickremasinghe was from Theldeniya, Kandy. He had his education at Seevali College, Ratnapura and was also a good sportsman. He was killed in action due to an enemy attack on Naval Fast Attack Craft P482 off seas of Mullaitiv on October 30, 1998.
An alms giving would be held at Sri Lankadhara Society Balika Niwasaya, W. A. Silva Mw. Wellawatte on October 24, to invoke merit on these fallen warriors. - Brother Officers of KDU Intake XI
