Scissors Salon receives international award
View(s):The Scissors Salon- a leading unisex hair and beauty Salon in Sri Lanka received the prestigious International Business Initiative Directions (BID) Quality Award in Geneva recently.
Addressing a press conference held to announce the international award, the Chairman of Scissors Salon, Mohamed Afthab recalled the humble beginnings of the Scissors Salon, in 2008 when its first branch was opened in Havelock Road recruiting six staff members to run the operations.

During its seven year journey, the Salon expanded its network of branches to five locations. The idea to start the Salon occurred to Afthab at the time he was living in Thailand- a place that Afthab identifies to be a premier fashion destination, he says.
“The Scissors Salon focuses on quality and the standard of service. From the first day itself, I focused on quality service delivery at every level. And hygiene became our first priority.
Also, we use only internationally branded products,” Afthab explains adding that this was the very reason why they focused on getting the ISO 9001/2008 certification.
It was following a research conducted by a team of professionals attached to the award granting body- BID, that Scissors’ commitment for quality service delivery was recognised, says Afthab who has returned to Sri Lanka after having participated at a grand awards ceremony held in Geneva on September 19.
“The awards ceremony was attended by representatives from countries such as the US, Dubai, Turkey, South Africa, Nigeria – multinational companies, business leaders, industry professionals, quality experts and academics.
I am proud to have received this international recognition as BID is a symbol of quality at the highest level. This award will encourage us to build ourselves as an international brand,”
Afthab said adding that, from Sri Lanka, the Scissors Salon and an eco friendly hotel in Hambantota had the privilege of winning this recognition this year.
