NO PRESIDENT NO VOLLEYBALL

Volleyball is the national sport in the country. But the President’s Cup competition of this sport has not been held for two years. Last year when the old regime was in power its president was to be the chief guest at this prestigious tournament but it was not held as the government toppled. This year under the new president the competition was to take place last month and that too did not take place as the president was not available on those days. Now it has been postponed to November. The strange thing is that to date even with two presidents, under different regimes, who were to be the chief guests at the event were not available. Will this event take place at all?
NEW HEAD FOR MEDICAL UNIT
The present head of the medical unit of the controlling body for sport is due to retire soon and the second-in-charge is gearing to take over. But there is a flaw. The Big Man in Sports has ideas of bringing in his own man for the post. The second-in-charge was in charge of a girls’ team which took second spot at a popular sport in Singapore last year.
GENUINE OR NOT?
There were a lot of judges at the recently concluded sports meet in Diyagama and the organisers were busy doling out the cash for those who were on duty at the five day event. Having no clear idea as to whom or how many acted as judges, the organizers started giving out the money. It was notice that several security personnel and some even from distant places such as Hanwella were standing in the queue to collect this allowance. Are they all genuine?
BROKEN ENGLISH
Still on the same subject, a costly Guide Book in English had been printed for the Diyagama event. It has been revealed that there are lot of mistakes in the book, including English and facts. This book has been distributed to students who took part in the five day event. It looks as if they will be reading false information and that too in broken English!
CURRYING FAVOUR
It looks as if the body in charge of Olympic sports in the country is buttering up the new Sports Boss as he has been sent to Lausanne to attend a not too important meeting there. Sports circles are abuzz with the news that the Sports Boss has been sent abroad in order to curry favour with him.
DISCREET INVESTIGATIONS
There is a discreet investigation taking place about a cash robbery that has taken place at a faraway place where a neighbouring under 19 cricket team was staying. Touring team members had complained about the robbery to the controlling body of the sport. Everybody connected with the sport and the tour is aware of this robbery even though the controlling body is trying to keep it a secret. The amount that is missing too is also not known.
