Trinity was home for lunch as they recorded their fifth outright win for the season, when they defeated St Servatius Matara by an innings and 86 runs in the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara yesterday,
Trinity put themselves in a match winning position when play ended on day one having bowled out the home team for a meager 59 and in reply made 236 for 9 declared and had St Servatius batting the second time in a spot of bother on 30 for 2.

The second day’s play saw Trinity needing just 23.4 overs to achieve their fifth outright win of the season with Duvindu Tillekeratne, skipper Raveen Sayer and Rashmika Dilshan who together shared eight wickets between them combined to skittle out St Servatius for another low score of 94.

Richmond fought back on day two after Royal dominated the opening day’s proceedings in the match played at Reid Avenue. Richmond batting the second time was on 134 for 2 thanks to unbeaten Chamikara Hewage and skipper Pasindu Bimsara.

The first day’s play saw left arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya and left hand batsman Naveen Vidanapathirana giving the edge to Royal. Lasith ran through the Richmond batting with impressive figures of 8 for 15 to bundle them out for a paltry score of 57.

Later Naveen steered the Royal batting when he cracked a 108 in 140 balls that included 11 boundaries and a six for Royal to end day one on 187 for 6 and they went on to make a score of 202 for 9 declared in the morning session of play on the second day.St Joseph’s had to fight hard against D.S. Senanayake College to earn a first inning lead on day two in the match which had a delayed due to wet outfield at Darley Road.

St Joseph’s resuming on their overnight score of 61 for 4 thanks to a fighting knock of 72 by Shevon Fonseka went on to make 154 in reply to DSS score of 133. The highlight of the match on day one was a seven wicket haul taken by Harin Cooray.St Peter’s was sitting pretty against St Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa in the match played at Bambalapitiya. They had the visitors struggling for survival on day two after having made a modest score of 226 and the Vazians on 34 for 7.

The Peterite bowlers Vinu Mohotti , Chandula Jayamanne and Thaneesha Weerakoon sharing nine wickets bundled the Vazians for a low score of 81. Ananda underwent a collapse after being in a strong position of 102 for 3 on day one against De Mazenod in the match played at Kandana. Ananda resuming on their overnight score lost their remaining seven wickets for 73 runs making 180 in reply to De Mazenod’s 160 to take a first inning lead.

No play was possible in the morning session in the match between St Anthony’s Wattala and St Benedict’s at Wattala due to the wet outfield. The match was due to begin later in the day. -MSA
