Cleaner hit by speeding bus dies in hospital
View(s):A 41-year-old man was hit by a speeding bus in Wellawatta, and flung against an iron railing, leading to his death, a coroner’s court inquiry was told.
The victim, Thalarambage Gamini Fernando, a bachelor, was employed as a cleaner by a private company .On Friday the victim had been working in a house in Wellawatte.
At about 9.30 p.m. while crossing the road near the W.A. de Silva Mawatha junction with a cart of junk, he had been hit by a speeding bus, and thrown violently against a roadside iron railing.
The victim succumbed to his injuries at the National Hospital.
The brother of the deceased, Thalarambage Lionel gave evidence before the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, M. Ashroff Rumi.According to JMO Dr U.A.K. Tennakoon, the victim died of injuries to his chest due to blunt force trauma.
The bus driver, presently in remand, was ordered to be present at the Coroner’s Court on November 29.
