Police barracks or line rooms
View(s):You wouldn’t guess it, but the over a century-old, long low building in the heart of the Nuwara Eliya town are the living quarters to 11 married police constables and their families attached to the N’Eliya police force.

The sad, bad conditions offered to married police constables
The living conditions are abominable, with leaky roofs made up of ancient Sinhala-clay tiles dating back to the British era offering little or no protection when it rains.
The barely habitable buildings consist of a small living room, one bedroom, and a miniscule kitchen. There are no attached toilets and families must leave their houses to reach the separately housed toilets which are in an equally dilapidated condition.
Because of limited space, residents have no option but to add a lean-to to store household goods, and they have had no choice but to get accustomed to badly leaking roofs.
Unfortunately the authorities do not seem to be aware of these appalling conditions which are in dire need of rectification.
