Sri Lankan wins BMJ South Asia Award
View(s):Consultant Ophthalmologist Dr Moditha Madhuwanthi Dissanayake, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, was the winner of the British Medical Journal (BMJ) South Asia Award in the category ‘Excellence in Medical Education’ for 2015.
The award ceremony was held at Leela Hotel in Mumbai, India on October 30.
Presenting the project ‘Developing and incorporating a module on Professionalism and Ethics in medical post-graduate training’, she has brought international recognition to postgraduate medical education in Sri Lanka.
Dr Dissanayake is a graduate of the Leadership Development Programme (LDP) of the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) and represents Sri Lanka in the Women in Ophthalmology Subcommittee of APAO. She underwent the LDP under the supervision of Dr Dushyantha Wariyapola.
A practising Consultant Eye Surgeon, she was the Joint Secretary of the College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka in 2013 and is a member of the Board of Study of Ophthalmology of the Post-Graduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM), University of Colombo.
She was supported in her efforts by PGIM Director Prof. Janaka De Silva, her colleague Dr. Madawa Chandratilake and other members of her team.
