Allrounder Malshan spins Joes to victory
An allround performance by Malshan Rodrigo who ended with a match bag of 11 for 87 and made a half ton helped St. Joseph’s record a seven wicket win over De Mazenod Kandana in the Under-19 Inter-School cricket encounter concluded at Darley Road yesterday.
The Josephians had put themselves in a strong position on day one after bowling out the Mazenodians for a low score of 105. Left arm spinner Malshan did most of the damage as the Joes ended the day in a strong position of 136 for 6.
Yesterday St. Joseph’s continued with Malshan spearheading with an unbeaten half ton, enabling them end their innings with a modest score of 206.
De Mazenod batting the second time with a deficit of 101 runs almost made a repeat of their first inning as they found Malshan too hot to handle and succumbed to a score of 123. St. Joseph’s chasing a run chase of 23 runs reached the target in the seventh over.
Janith Sandeepa along with Lasith Embuldeniya and Naveen Vidanapathirana combined to help Royal Colombo coast to a convincing ten wicket over Royal Panadura in the match concluded at St. John’s ground in Panadura.
The opening day’s play saw Janith and Lasith sharing eight wickets between them to bundle out Royal Panadura taking first lease of the wicket for a score of 126 and Royal Colombo in reply ended the day on 135 for 7 with Janith remaining unbeaten on 46.

Royal Colombo continuing day two from their score saw Janith going on to make a half ton as they went on to make a score of 144. Royal Panadura batting the second was mesmerized by the bowling trio Lasith, Hemish Ramanayake and Janith and collapsed for a meager 99 runs.
Royal left with a victory target of 82 runs for victory was guided by an unbeaten 55 by Naveen who along with Krishkan Ravichandran steered them to victory in just 9.5 overs.
Mahinda has already taken a first inning lead over Zahira in the match played at Maradana. Mahinda in reply to Zahira’s score of 133 resuming from their overnight score of 56 for 3 went on to make 186.
A ton by Navid Nirmal was the feature of the second day’s play in the match between St. Benedict’s and St. Aloysius Galle played at Kotahena. St. Aloysius continuing from their overnight score of 164 for 5 ended their innings making a formidable score of 261 and St. Benedict’s went into the tea break on 156 for 5.
