51-year-old knocked down and killed by motorcyclist at pedestrian crossing
View(s):A motorcyclist knocked down and killed a 51-year-old man at a pedestrian crossing on the Moragasyaya-Kahanpola Road in Horana on Friday (13) night, a coroner’s court was told. The deceased, Upallage Don Dharmasena, a farmer from Gonapola, Horana, was crossing the road around 7.15 pm on Friday when a speeding motorcyclist knocked him down. He was immediately rushed to Colombo National Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around midnight the same day.
Horana police constable Lal Nandasiri Elapatha giving evidence before Colombo Additional City Coroner Iresha Deshani Samaraweera said the rider heading towards Moragashahena from Horana had knocked down Mr. Dharmasena in the middle of the crossing.
National Hospital JMO K.K. Joozar said death was due to abdominal injuries and damage to the backbone, caused by the accident.
Meanwhile, Horana Police arrested the motorcyclist, and were ordered by Ms Samaraweera to produce him before the Coroner’s court on Wednesday (18).
