The Women’s Football Coaching Course conducted by FIFA was held at the Racecourse ground in Colombo during the final week of October. The course, conducted by Monica Stab, a FIFA Certified Instructor, was attended by 13 female and 17 male coaches.

The participants at the opening ceremony of the programme at the FFSL auditorium with FFSL officials, Anura de Silva (President of FFSL), Balendra Anthony (Secretary General), Anand Anthonypillai (CEO), Faiz (Chairman Technical), Sudharma Jayawardena (Chairperson, Women Soccer Committee Member / National Teams Management Committee), Chaminda Steinwall (Acting Technical Director) and Olivia Gamage (Women’s Football Administrator)

“This programme was organised for the purpose of developing women’s football in Sri Lanka and our goal is to enhance the knowledge of women and men coaches in both theoretical and practical aspects. The true intention of this programme was to attract young women to football, where it will be useful to expand football overall within Sri Lanka among the fairer sex,” stated Balendra Anthony, the Secretary General of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL).

The conductor of the course, Stab, who was in her third straight visit to Sri Lanka for the similar programme, was highly overwhelmed by the participants’ enthusiasm. “I have been to Sri Lanka twice before and I’m very much aware about Sri Lankan women’s football. This was a good opportunity for Sri Lankan coaches to learn more about football and I must request all coaches participated to dedicate themselves into expanding women’s football in Sri Lanka,” she said.

Anura de Silva, the President of FFSL, requested those who participated in the programme to report about the development of football, with the intention of developing women’s game in Sri Lanka.
