Catholic Church memorial service for Ven. Sobhitha Thera
View(s):A memorial service of thanksgiving for the prophetic life, vision and mission of the Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Hamuduruwo will be held on Monday, November 23 from 10 a.m. at St. Thomas’ Church in Kotte. The service has been organised by the Archdiocese of Colombo and the Kotte deanery headed by Rv. Fr. Sanjeewa Mendis, under the guidance of Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.
The main preacher at the service will be Rev. Fr. Reid Shelton Fernando who for several years had worked closely with Sobhitha Hamuduruwo and the National Movement for a Just Society, especially in the campaign for the peaceful people’s revolution of January 8.
Priests and nuns and members of social justice movements are among those expected to take part in this memorial service which is seen as a rare occasion where a memorial service is being held in a Catholic Church for a revered Buddhist prelate. Thus it will be an occasion to consolidate inter-religious unity and solidarity.
