OpenArc becomes first Sri Lankan software company in Japan
Having launched its subsidiary company in Japan in September, OpenArc Systems Management, providing software solutions to the banking and finance industry in Sri Lanka,is exploring the possibilities with leading Japanese finance companies operating in regional markets in Asia-Pacific to assist them in implementing finance software solutions, officials said.”Our subsidiary, OpenArc Systems Japan will operate with its regional headquarters in Tokyo catering primarily to embedded software designed and developed by OpenArc,” Chairman/CEO OpenArc, Daya Hettiarachchi told the Business Times.Explaining embedded software systems, Mr. Hettiarachchi said that they are the unsung heroes of much of the technology used today — the video game people play, or the CD player or the washing machines.
He added that some major automobile manufacturers in Japan are already engaged in work on embedded software systems. “One such technology is Adaptive Cruise control (ACC) which allows cars to keep safe distances from other vehicles on busy highways.”He said that OpenArc which has plans to go public in the near future is the only Sri Lankan software company which has attracted direct Japanese investments to the country so far, adding that it has two Japanese directors Tomohide Abe and Masami Awano. With its presence in Japan, the company will be able to open new avenues for Sri Lankan software engineers to enter the Japanese market particularly in the field of Embedded Software Engineering, he added.
Mr. Hettiarachchi explained that Japan being a highly industrial country has huge opportunities for electronics and related software solutions which are technically called Embedded Software. “This is an area where high calibre Sri Lankan engineers can immensely contribute to development and implementation in many sectors as automobiles, analytical instruments, cameras, mobiles or any other industrial equipment.”
