Darkness into Light: A Christmas musical journey
View(s):The Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour choir will present “Darkness into Light”, a short choral programme, on November 30 at the cathedral located on Bauddhaloka Mawatha.
Heralding the season of Christmas and its message of hope and peace, the music will narrate the story of Christmas through well known carols such as ‘O Come all ye Faithful’, ‘Joyful Joyful’ and ‘Silent Night’ but to different melodies that will still be familiar to the audience.
“For instance, we’ll be singing ‘Silent Night’ to the tune of Pachelbel’s Canon in D, which is used in a lot of weddings,” said choir director Ishan De Lanerolle.
“It’s very different and I think people will enjoy that. We’ve been rehearsing for a few months now, so I think the stage is all set for a lovely show.”
Proceeds will go towards the Cathedral parish mission outreach fund, which includes projects for the elderly and terminally ill, and the Maharagama Cancer Hospital.
“This is a synergizing of resources,” said Rev. Perry Brohier. “Our choir has a talent and gift which we are using to raise awareness that these realities exist and that they don’t just exist at Christmas time.”
The programme will be 45 minutes long and will start on time at 6.30 p.m. Programmes and tickets, priced at Rs. 500, are available at Commons Café and Park Street Mews.
