Thirty years ago, Kanthi Ranchigoda started to give foundation to her dream of spreading her love of dancing. To her it was a magical human movement that combined in itself all the positive aspects of life.

‘Let there be Dance’ was her latest production and there it was bringing with it a dynamic fusion of dance, light, colour and sound.

The title given to the show was prosaic and poetic and only Kanthi could think of such a title where her imagination and imaging, together with her choreographic skills produced the spectacular reality that we encountered at the Lionel Wendt on October 31. The genres featured were wide and many.

Aged three to a youthful 20, talent flowed rhythmically through ballet, tap, contemporary dance, jazz, hip-hop and the Bollywood styles.

A show, however good it may be, if it does not flow smoothly takes away from the effect. In fact this programme proceeded without even a small hiccup.

One item followed the other in its amazing colour and vitality and the one negative was I had no time to collect my breath that I held together in watching the fusion of dances, colours and dazzling costumes.

It was a skilful and imaginative repertoire of lively subjects from cupcakes to chickens, My Way to Blue Danube, from Clowns to Cats’ Bollywood, fairies – the list was endless and I say fascinating, holding the interest of the audience.

It is difficult to pick out the best. Each one different to the other, some slow and graceful, others toe-tapping, the flamenco and the cancan alive and amazing – once again Kanthi has succeeded in producing a show which depicted a smooth performance that bespoke of the hard work and effort that went behind the scene under the guidance of a teacher who gave the dancing reality and passion.
