Sri Lanka beckons tourists for Kelaniya Duruthu festival
View(s):Sri Lanka is looking at promoting the Duruthu Perahera conducted at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya, a temple that has a key religious significance and would promote the rich cultural heritage of the country.The iconic Buddhist temple dates back to over 2500 years, and it is said that Buddha visited this site on his third and final visit to the country, a release issued by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau stated.
Promoting this festival would highlight the country’s religious and cultural events that attract travelers to Sri Lanka and also create more ties between Buddhist countries as well, the release stated. While attempting to attract the Buddhist traveler and visitor interested in cultural and religious heritage this festival could also be a bid to bring down Sri Lankan Buddhists residing overseas including Buddhist priests, international university students and cultural and heritage researchers, observers and explorers.
Duruthu Perahera includes a lot of customs and rituals, which date to more than 1700 years which were handed down from generation to generation and creates attraction due to its colourfulness, which is one of the main tourist attractions, it was noted adding that one of the main features of the Perahera is its Indian and Hindu influence. Sri Lanka Tourism expects to improve the density of Tourism in Kelaniya, Colombo during the period of the Duruthu Perahera with increased number of hotel occupancy and commercial developments; it was stated adding that more information about this pageant could be obtained from visiting http://www.kelaniyatemple.org/
