PM to deliver Sujata Jayawardena Oration
View(s):Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is scheduled to deliver the 12th Annual Sujata Jayawardena Memorial Oration a premier annual event hosted by the Alumni Association of the University of Colombo on Friday, 11th December at the BMICH.This oration is in memory of one of its illustrious Past Presidents the Late Mrs. Sujata Jayawardena who rendered immense service to the University of Colombo, a media release said.
“Under her stewardship the Alumni Association constructed a 5-storeyed hostel for female undergraduates in Buller’s Lane, Colombo 7 and the novelty of this project was that the funds were raised through the contributions of hundreds of donors,” it said, adding that the hostel complex, opened in 1996, now accommodates over 550 women undergraduates.
The University of Colombo, as a mark of gratitude to the late Mrs. Jayawardena, renamed the hostel as the Sujata Jayawardena Memorial Hostel after her demise. “This year’s Orator is very special as Mr. Wickremasinghe is a distinguished alumnus of the University of Colombo and the first and only Prime Minister of Sri Lanka produced by our university system,” the release said, adding that the Oration is sponsored by NDB Bank PLC and Dialog Axiata PLC.
