Indian, Lankan classical musicians on one stage
As a part of the Pandit Amaradeva Felicitation programme organised by the Amaradeva Foundation, Sri Lanka’s classical music lovers will have a rare opportunity to witness some versatile Indian and Sri Lankan classical musicians coming together on one platform.
The classical resonance concert of the two Indian artistes- Anindo Chatterjee and Sri Purbayan Chatterjee will see prominent names in the local music scene such as Ravibandu Vidyapathi, Upula Madhushanka, Aruna Siriwardane, Rakhita Wickramaratne also on stage on December 8 at the BMICH.
Running parallel would be two classical music workshops by Pandit Anindo Chatterjee and Shri Purbayan Chatterjee on December 6, 7 and 8 at the Indian Cultural Centre.
Chatterjee who took up playing the tabla when he was just four years old, is the recipient of the coveted Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by the Indian President in 2003.
He was just 16 years old when he was recognised by the All India Critics Association as the Best Performer of the Year 1997. In recognition of his talent, the Indian Government awarded him the Gold medal in the All India Radio Music Competition.
A young generation sitar player, Sri Purbayan Chatterjee is an accomplished musician who performs in almost all the major music conferences in India.
Purbayan won the President’s Award for Best Instrumental Musician in the All India Radio Music Competition. His successful international tours include a performance in Great Britain and Germany in 1996, a concert held in the USA in 1997.
