On Saturday , November 21, we were fully entertained by the concert of a delightful programme with the talented flautist Tilanka Jayamanne and pianist Joshua Asokan at the Russian Centre auditorium.

Mokshini Jayamanne introduced the artistes and gave a most interesting introductory comment in compère style of the recital.
There was much sensitivity within the performance of Suite Antique by John Rutter. And the duo were perfectly balanced throughout .The sonata for flute and piano of Otar Taktakishvill contrasted beautifully and the exploration of tonal colour was most effective.

Joshua , a gifted young composer, had written The Moods at Sea following an inspirational time literally gazing across the ocean. The performance of the work was a treat for the audience as we experienced the ebb and flow of the beautiful creation demonstrated with the clarity of the flute and delicate accompaniment of the rippling piano.

Finally there was a performance of Introduction and Variations on a theme Trockne Blumen of Schubert which requires strong technical command for both flute and piano. We were not disappointed as the performance demonstrated a high quality of technique from both performers concluding a most enjoyable concert of a highly commendable standard throughout the demanding programme.
