The Police Fraud Bureau has launched an investigation to ascertain details of persons who allegedly used forged visas to enter the USA earlier this year.

The investigation has been launched after a man involved in the preparation of forged visas was arrested by the Fraud Bureau during the course of a probe on use of forged visas to enter the US.

Officer in Charge of the Fraud Bureau Chief Inspector P.P.A. Wijenayake confirmed that an investigation had been launched over preparation of forged visas to enter the US and about the persons who made use of them.

The initial investigation had commenced after an officerof the US Embassy consular section lodged a complaint that a person was detected with a forged visa.

The suspect was taken into custody in June and immediately thereafter the man who allegedly prepared the forged visas had been nabbed, but has denied any knowledge about the persons who reportedly used them.

At least 15 persons had reportedly obtained ‘Working Visas’ and left for the US this year, but the man who prepared the visas had claimed that he had only prepared the ‘visas’ but was not aware of the full details of the persons who used them.

The man who allegedly prepared the visas had been produced in courts and was sentenced for six months, suspended for five years.

The man who prepared the visas had also prepared letterheads of non–existing companies, but had given the same telephone number to ensure that any inquiries from the US Embassy would be answered by him.

The man had initially denied that he was only consulted regarding visas, but later had confessed that he had prepared the visas.
