Santa’s helper comes to grant a Christmas wish
It’s that time of the year when children start putting down their little notes for Santa Claus, while their parents readily oblige to surprise their little ones with their dream gifts.
But not every child is privileged that way, especially children in remote villages whose parents can barely afford three meals a day.
However, kids in the villages of Mahiyanganaya and Wellawaya are in for a little surprise when Santa visits them with gifts and goodies his Christmas.
Young philanthropist Danesh Maduranga Edirisooriya of ‘Samajasathkara,’ who has taken to initiate a Christmas gift project for the children in Mahiyanganya and Wellawaya will be visiting some of the household in these rural villages during the Christmas week.
He will put on his red shirt and a Christmas hat, and visit these kids as Santa’s representative to collect their gift lists, days prior to Christmas.
Having set up the ‘Samajasathkara’ social media campaign, Danesh has embarked on a number of social welfare projects.
His latest Christmas ‘Dream Gift Project’ is intended at sharing the spirit of Christmas with the under privileged children in rural areas.
The idea is to get them their dream gift, says Danesh adding that he will utilize the funds he has collected from well wishers via the Samaja Sathkara social media campaign for this purpose.
While the ‘Dream Gift Project’ will be carried out for a selected group of kids, Danesh will also be visiting several houses in these villages on Christmas eve to distribute the gifts he has collect from well-wishers, he says.
A similar project held in Diyathalawa last year became very successful for the reason that it was the first time in their life that most of the beneficiaries received a gift.
“Among them I came across kids who have never even tasted a piece of cake before,” says Danesh adding that last year’s Christmas gift project had alot of support from the donors who responded immediately after the project details were posted on the Samajasathkara FB page.
