Randika ‘ton’ was the highlight
Nisal Randika hit his third first class century as he remained unbeaten on 135, helping Galle CC post a mammoth total of 406-5 against Army SC on the second day of their AIA Inter-Club Premier League Cricket Tournament match at Galle yesterday.
Electing to bat first Galle CC finished the first day in a strong position at 302-3 and went on to add further 104 runs to their total before rain halted play shortly before lunch.
Randika was unbeaten on 92 overnight and he went on to reach his century yesterday while Chamara Silva, his partner could only add six runs to his overnight total before being dismissed for 65.
Randika was well set to eclipse his career best, which is 158, until rain came and prevented his rhythm. By then he had scored 135 runs off 292 deliveries hitting 13 boundaries. Harsha Vithana made a 62-ball 51 inclusive of five boundaries and a six.
On Friday opener T.N. Sampath scored 70 off 106 deliveries inclusive of eight boundaries. Army SC used ten bowlers as wicketkeeper Leo Francisco was the only man not to bowl.
Bloomfield lost three quick wickets before reaching 45 in reply to 221 posted by Badureliya SC at Surrey Village in Maggona as play was halted shortly before the tea break.
Bloomfield elected to field and their left-arm spinner Upul Indrasiri made a mockery of the Badureliya batting lineup by claiming a five-wicket haul.
He was well supported by another left-arm spinner Chathura Randunu, who bagged four scalps. Sahan Wijesiri top scored for Badureliya SC with a fluent knock of 66 which came off 100 deliveries inclusive of nine fours and a six.
For Bloomfield opener Dilshan Munaweera remained unbeaten on 33, which he made after facing just 28 deliveries inclusive of three fours and two sixes.
CCC were well placed at 85 for the loss of two wickets and were ready to take charge over Chilaw Marians who made 193 at FTZ ground in Katunayake.
CCC lost two early wickets before their total reached five runs but a timely unbroken partnership of 80 runs for the third wicket between opener Hans Fernando and Nizam Mazahir helped them recover.
Fernando was batting fluently on 34 not out after facing 101 deliveries while Mazahir was in a different mood altogether as he remained unbeaten on 47 off 66 balls coming in at No.4.
Left-arm spinners rocked the Chilaw Marians batting line up as Lakshan Sandaken claimed a five-wicket haul and skipper Sachith Pathirana picked four wickets.
Chilaw Marians were 128-5 overnight but lost their remaining five wickets for 65 runs as Akshu Fernando emerged as the top scorer with a knock of 61 which came off 150 balls.
Progress was slow at P. Sara Oval as Moors SC took five sessions to reach 159-9 against Tamil Union as rain proved a spoiler, providing regular interruptions.
When Moors resumed yesterday at 49-2 the day was sunny and fine for cricket but they were allowed to face only 35.2 overs for their 110 runs.
Chathuranga de Silva was the top scorer as he remained unbeaten on 47 off 89 deliveries.
At the Army ground in Mattegoda, play did not resume from the first day as Sri Lanka Ports Authority remained at 76-6, the total they reached at stumps on Friday against Ragama CC. Play is yet to take off between NCC and Colts at the NCC ground.
