DHL global study highlights ‘fair and responsible logistics’
View(s):Global logistics giant, DHL, in a November 2015 study, has highlighted the need for “fair and responsible logistics” while, at the same time, identifying 15 industry best practice examples. According to the report, titled “Fair and Responsible Logistics: A DHL perspective on how to create lasting competitive advantage”, which is currently available on the company’s website; “Uptake of innovative green products and solutions shows market demand for a sustainable economy.Stakeholder requests are driving our development of fair and responsible logistics. Of course, there is still a lot of work to do, with the need to overcome cost and time constraints. But it is clear that,
when selecting a logistics provider, an employer, or an investment, more and more people are looking for evidence of responsibility and contribution to a fairer society and environment’ .”Additionally, a statement issued about this report went on to state, “Logistics providers for example, can establish recycling-friendly warehouses and trucks that provide the infrastructure for both logistics and recycling to increase recycling volumes and reduce waste.
This envisages delivery trucks equipped with flexible interiors that adjust during delivery; the section for delivery reduces as parcels are offloaded and the collection area increases as recyclables are collected on the return journey”.Further, the statement also noted, “while many companies today are relying on digitalisation and new technologies as key sources of business rejuvenation, they should not overlook the movement toward fair and responsible business as this is becoming an important source of future growth and lasting competitive advantage”.
