The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka, in response to an article published in the Sunday Times of December 27, 2014, titled “PUC pulls the plug on CEB’s power generation plan” says that the statements provided to the writer of the said article were not its official views.

It maintains that the officer who was interviewed “confirms that he never made a statement to your paper on the subject matter and just clarified a query as part of educating a caller on the progress of the public consultation process”.

The statement says the writer of the article “casually inquired” about the power generation plan of the CEB from the said officer. It also asserts that, “The said officer was never informed that the inquiry was made in order to publish a newspaper article as official view of the Commission.”

Further, Mr. Sameera Adikaram confirms that the article contains things that were not stated by him. Therefore, it says, the impression created by this article is misleading.

Reporter’s note: Mr. Sameera Adikaram was clearly asked whether he could be quoted, at which time he responded in the affirmative. He supplied his name and full designation. The reporter stands by the facts contained in the article.
