“My Life and all that Jazz” by Yolande Bavan
View(s):Broadway star, internationally known jazz singer Yolande Bavan is on a short visit to her motherland in January to attend the Fairway Galle Literary Festival.
On her last visit to Sri Lanka she had a sellout concert at the Colombo Hilton and the DBU, organised by JC Entertainments SL, but this time around there will be no shows.
Yolande will address Rotarians and friends on, “My Life and all that Jazz” on Wednesday January 13 at a luncheon meeting at the Galadari Hotel Colombo 1, California Grill, (Rooftop).
Born in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) where she started her career while still in her teens, Yolande went on to replace Annie Ross in the award winning jazz vocal trio, Lambert Hendricks and Ross. The group recorded three albums together as Lambert Hendricks and Bavan.
Bavan’s extensive stage career includes appearances on Broadway and numerous Off-Broadway and regional theatre productions.
She has also recorded over 500 books for the U.S. Library of Congress Talking Books for the Blind programme and has received the Alexander Scourby Narrator of the Year award for her work in this field.
