‘Socrates’ goes on the boards
View(s):The maiden performance of Nimal Ekanayake’s theatrical production ‘Socrates’ a story based on the life of a Greek philosopher who is considered as one of the founders’ of Western philosophy was staged at Lionel Wendt theatre on January 21.
Made based on the life story of Socrates and the Greek comedy play ‘The Clouds’ a caricature of Socrates written by the celebrated playwright Aristophanes, the play is scripted by Prof. Sunanda Mahendra.
Jayalath Manoratne plays the role of Socrates while Chamila Peiris plays the wife of Socrates.
Others in the cast include Nalin Pradeep Uduwela, Lal Kularatne, Wasantha Vittachchi, Richard Manamudali, Sanjeewa Dissanayake, Susil Wickremesinghe, Thilini Maduwanthi, Kosala de Silva, Nuwan Liyanage, Chiran Vithana, Shashikanjana Wickremesinghe, Viraj Niroshan and Chamila Thenuwara.
Musical score is by Navaratne Gamage, makeup by Wasantha Vittachchi, production director is Saman Cabral and Iresha Janaki designs the costumes. Prof. Ashu Marasinghe produced the play.
The play will be staged at the New Town hall on February 7.
