Vox one concludes festive season with lively sounds
View(s):A Festival of Nine lessons and Carols, by Vox One, was held last month at the Maris Stella College Chapel, Negombo, an eagerly awaited event in Negombo’s Christmas calendar.
The service which featured carol singing by Vox One and Vox One junior.
The music for the service was chosen by Harin Amirthanathan, director of the choir, with performances by Denham Pereira on Organ and Johann Peiris on Flute. The service was taken by Rev. Fr. Ciswan de Croos, Parish Priest of St. Lucia’s Cathedral, Colombo 12.
The service was a mixture of congregational carols and music sung by the choir, with traditional readings by members of the choir and the Negombo community.
The service included classics like Bach’s Et incarnatusest from Mass in B minor, Mendelssohn’s Frohlocket, ihrVölker, Philip Ledger’s Sussex Carol, Harry Simeone’s Do You Hear What I Hear?, Nicholas White’s How Far Is It To Bethlehem , and most notably a choral arrangement of the ‘ Galle Portuguese Carol’ specially commissioned for the service.
After the service, the choir sang popular Christmas classics such as ‘Jingle Bells,’ ‘Twelve days of Christmas,’ ‘The holly and the Ivy,’ and ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’.
