Sampath Bank emerged Division ‘B’ champions at the Mercantile League Basketball Tournament 2015 after defeating SriLankan Airlines after a thrilling final. Sampath Bank came neck-to-neck against SriLankan Airlines before defeating the national airlines with a one-point lead as the game ended with a scoreline of 59-58 after a grueling battle.
The Sampath Bank team reached the knockout stages after overcoming Ranwana and Co., SriLankan Airlines and Avant Garde in the group games. After a tough battle they beat Commercial Credit ‘B’ in the semi-final to reach the final.
Coached by long standing employee Sriyantha Jayaweera and former national skipper Chamath Danawansa, who is the present captain of the team, Sampath Bank comprised of Chamira Ratnayake, Asanka Lellwala, Anushka Vishwanath, Sandun Rathnappriya, M.K. Shiran, Chanuka Jayasuriya, Vimukthi Illangasinghe, Hashan Perera, Kavindu Lokuliyana, Senura Illangasinghe and MadurangaMunasinghe.
