Trinity strike back to record thrilling win over Ananda
View(s):Trinity struck back after conceding a first inning lead to Ananda to record a thrilling four wicket win in the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Panagoda yesterday. According to sources they are recording a win over Ananda after a lapse of five decades and also this was their ninth outright win of the on going inter-school cricket season.
Interestingly the run chase for Trinity was a challenging one of 187 runs in 32 overs and they achieved it with one over remaining. They needed 18 runs in the last two overs and three sixes in the penultimate over which two were by Raveen Sayer saw them race to the target with an over to spare.Shavinda Amarasinghe and Hasitha Boyagoda too was instrumental in the thrilling win of Trinity as their useful knocks gave the late order batsmen the confidence of reaching the challenging target.
The mornings sessions play saw Ananda resuming on their overnight score of 17 for 2 going to make a score of 174 with Kamesh Nirmal making a ton whose effort in the end was in vain. An unbeaten knock of 101 in 90 balls inclusive of seven boundaries and two sixes by Malshan Rodrigo was the highlight of the match between St Joseph’s and Prince of Wales concluded at Darley Road yesterday.
Meanwhile in the three inter-school matches which began yesterday saw Royal helped by a knock of 107 by Pasindu Sooriyabandara make a score of 300 for 9 declared against De Mazenod who ended the day on 105 for 6. St Peter’s came out on top against DSS on day one in the match played at Bambalapitiya. A knock of 88 by Ranmith Jayasena saw St Peter’s end the day on 188 for 7 in reply to DSS’s score of 112. Kalutara Vidyalaya achieved a notable triumph when they scored a four wicket win over St. Anthony’s; Katugastota on the latter’s home turf.
Having dismissed the Anthonians for a meagre 162, the visitors – especially the last pair of Shakila Asalanka and Yasith Umayanga who added 48 runs, ensured that they had a substantial lead.
Off spinner Avishka Lakshan (5 for 21) and left arm pacie Hiruna Chathumina got together to demolish the opponents for 109.
The target was a mere 50 plus, but, the Anthonians made the Kalutara lads fight for every run.
