Last weekend 100 children from the Kurunegala and Mullaitivu districts who are part of the  Music Project, came together to visit Colombo. The British School children in Colombo hosted them and organised lots of fun activities for them.

On Friday the Music Project children arrived at the British School and played their favourite orchestral pieces such as Tequila and The French Can- Can. The British School children had lots of fun clapping along and listening to them play. Then it was their turn to join in!

They learned to play the popular tune ‘Nil Ahas Thale’ on the recorder with help from the Music Project children.
At the second workshop, they all enjoyed making homemade instruments such as the rain shaker and maraca. On Saturday, it was the British School children’s turn to share their expertise through activities such as swimming and ICT.

The highlight of the weekend was the concert on Friday evening where all the children were able to celebrate their immense musical talent and display all their hard work. There were all kinds of performances from traditional Kandyan dancing to drumming and singing.

The best part was when all three hundred children performed ‘Nil Ahas Thale’ for their parents. It was great to see children from different areas of Sri Lanka enjoying themselves and playing alongside each other.
