Head for some great entertainment with Rukshan!
View(s):Rukshan Perera Live in Concert will see one of Colombo’s beloved entertainers on stage tonight, Sunday, February 7 at the Bishop’s College auditorium, at 7 p.m.
After his return to Sri Lanka, some years ago, it has become almost a tradition for the musician-singer to hold an annual concert and this is his seventh, this time in aid of the Sunera Foundation.
Performing with him tonight will be the Colombo Brass Ensemble and flautist Sureka Amerasinghe as well as bassist Ray Gomes, drummer Lelum Rathanayake, Hasitha Maduranga and Shane Vaas from ‘Glory’ on keyboards and guitar respectively.
Also on the show are Nuwan Balasuriya on oriental flute, Rajitha Rupasinghe of Mystique and Clifford Richards.
An evening with Rukshan and his friends is guaranteed to be a happy potpourri of the many styles this versatile musician delights in- pop, blues, jazz and experimental music.
Look forward to some old favourites, the Rukshan’s originals and some new compositions such as the moving “Angel in my Hand” written for his youngest grand-daughter, for which he will be joined by Sonali de Soyza’s 8-14 year old ‘Little Sopranos’.
On the fun side there’s the hilarious “Gossip Queen”, a new version of the classic “Master Sir”, “Mage Moley” (My Brain), and other Rukshan specials.
Rukshan, fans may recall, started out as a youngster performing with Clarence Wijewardena and the Super Golden Chimes before moving on to stages in the US, Europe, Australia, Asia and the UAE.
Several of the issues close to Rukshan’s heart come out in his music and “Eka Mawakage Daruwo” (Children of One Mother) is thus a song about racial and religious harmony which he will perform with his brother Melantha Perera of Mirage fame, alongside students from the “River Sheen School of Music” in Moratuwa. Melantha and Rukshan will sing another special number ‘We are Brothers’.
So there’s a lot planned and we can only say, don’t miss Rukshan tonight.
Tickets are available at Bishop’s College auditorium from 10.a.m. this morning.
