India ready to invest in IT sector here, says Indian FM
View(s):Visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj yesterday said that the Indian Government was ready to invest in the Information Technology (IT) sector in Sri Lanka and would set up an IT park in the country.
She was speaking at the inauguration of the exhibition“Rise of Digital India” being held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
“During the joint commission meeting with Foreign Affairs minister Samarweera we discussed the possibilities of developing the IT sector benefiting both countries,” she said.
“We felt that there are enormous opportunities of cooperation between the two countries in the field of information and digital technologies. India has made significant progress in the information technology sector and I conveyed our readiness to assist Sri Lanka in this sector.” Minister Swaraj said.
Echoing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign of “Digital India” as a development strategy, she said , “The ‘Digital India’ initiative is one of the key measures to make the government transparent, responsive and citizen-friendly.
The objective is to create a digitally empowered society and infuse technology into government, healthcare and education.”
The Exhibition showcases the phenomenal rise of the computing sector and digital technologies in India impacting positively on the everyday lives of normal people in areas such as agriculture, power generation, weather forecasting, e-commerce, atomic energy, space, communication and e-governance.
The exhibition will be on in Colombo until February-20.
