Chandrika leads Lanka shuttle team to SAG
A 15-member strong Sri Lanka badminton team left for the 12th South Asian Games to be held in Guwahati and Shillong in India. The badminton games will be played from February 6 to 10.
The team comprises of seven girls and eight boys. The overall team will be led by most experienced and senior player Chandrika de Silva.
The players were selected after a fair round robin trial and the best was included and also rankings were taken into consideration.
They had a residential coaching camp at SLBA under the close scrutiny of men’s coach Pradeep Welagedara and women’s coach Shimal Aponso.
The players were put through their paces by trainer R.M.R.D. Ratnayake.
The Following players will represent Sri Lanka in Badminton at the SAF Games: Kavindhi Ishanka, Thilini Hendahewa, Lekha Shehani, Chandrika de Silva (overall team captain), Nadeesha Gayanthi, Upuli Weerasinghe, Oshadi Kuruppu, Thisara Nimmika, Madhuka Dulanjana, Vibhavi Madusha, Buwaneka Gunathilake, Sachin Dias, Pramoddya Ranaweera, Thisal Yatawara and Imesh Hasaranga.
The team will be accompanied by officials: Wing Commander Amal Dias (Secretary of SLBA) and Palitha Hettiarachchi (Vice President of SLBA).
