Lankans end up in fourth position
Their perennial teen bug afflicted Lankan cricket once again when their under 19 national team crashed to an inglorious three wicket loss against Bangladesh in their fight for the third place of ICC World Cup at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatllah, Bangladesh, yesterday.
Taking the first lease of the wickets the Lankan lads started well enough adding 60 runs for the first wickets, with openers Kamindu Mendis 26 and Salindu Ushan 34 batting with purpose.
But, thereafter they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals to be all out for 214 in 48.5 overs with only skipper Charith Asalanka making a worthwhile contribution of 76 with six fours and a six.
Besides Asalanka Shammu Ashan (27) and Wanindu Hasaranga (30) also made decent enough contributions.
At the end of the game a disappointed Lankan captain Asalanka said that they were disappointed because they were looking to set a stiffer target to their opponents.
He added saying that they ended up twenty five runs behind the expected target. He said “Our expected target was to be the champions but we have ended up at the fourth place”.
The Bangladesh skipper Mehedi Hassan said “I am happy to end up at the third position and this is an achievement for us”.
